Measles

There has been a significant increase in reports of confirmed measles cases in London over the last month. Cases have been reported in South London since September 2015 and, more recently, cases have been confirmed in other parts of London and elsewhere suggesting transmission may be more widespread.

Confirmed cases have ranged from infants to adults in their 50s, with a significant number aged 18 and over. As expected, the majority of cases have been in unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals.

MMR vaccination remains the most effective way to protect against measles. We would urge you to ensure that you have completed the 2 dose course. If you have not, or are unsure, please contact the surgery at the earliest opportunity to book for vaccination. There is no upper age limit and extra doses of MMR will NOT cause problems in immunocompetent individuals.
